Mendy expected to rejoin Real Madrid squad in training this Monday

French defender Ferland Mendy has recovered from his hamstring injury and will almost certainly make his return to the group when Real Madrid complete their first training session after the Christmas break this Monday, according to a report from AS.

Mendy tore his hamstring just five days after featuring in Real Madrid’s starting lineup against Olympiakos, but it seems that he will be available when Los Blancos face Atlético de Madrid in the Spanish Supercup next week, even if Xabi Alonso will likely start Alvaro Carreras on the left-back spot.

The French defender signed a contract extension with the club a year ago, one which will keep him in the Spanish capital at least until the summer of 2028. In that context, knowing that while he’s definitely entered his decline as a player and that his ability to stay healthy is in question, Real Madrid will likely try to get rid of his contract every transfer window.
