Nicolas Jackson wanted to stay at Chelsea until one thing changed his mind - journalist

Nicolas Jackson was one big name that moved in the summer transfer window after leaving Chelsea for Bayern Munich.

Bayern signed Jackson from Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

It is thought that Jackson can no longer meet those conditions, though, making a permanent move to the Allianz Arena quite unlikely.

In the striker’s ideal world, he would still actually be at Chelsea. But from his perspective, the club gave him no option but to leave in the end.

Nicolas Jackson wanted Chelsea stay until Joao Pedro’s arrival and impact

Journalist Rahman Osman has claimed on X that Jackson initially wanted to remain at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to Osman, Joao Pedro’s arrival ultimately changed his mind and forced him to leave Chelsea.

The Blues had already signed Liam Delap but then went on to purchase Pedro, who made an immediate impact.

The forward scored three goals in as many games at the Club World Cup, including in the final against Paris Saint-Germain.

It all contributed to Jackson deciding to leave and join Bayern. Loaning out the 24-year-old may be a decision that the Blues now regret, though.

Chelsea haven’t upgraded on Nicolas Jackson

Because of injuries and suspension, Delap has not managed to find any kind of form at Chelsea since his arrival from Ipswich Town.

So far, Delap has failed to score a single goal in the Premier League, while he has netted just once in 12 games across all competitions.

Simply put, the England Under-21 international has not been able to prove that he is an upgrade on Jackson.

As for Pedro, he is faring much better, but it is likely that the Brazilian finishes on roughly the same number of goals that Jackson scored in his first season at Chelsea.

Pedro has scored six times in 18 Premier League outings, while Jackson netted 14 times back in the 2023/24 campaign. If Pedro does go on to surpass that tally, it will not be by that much.
