Diogo Jota's wife has been supported as she shared a special tribute to her late husband. Rute Cardoso was back at Anfield over the weekend with her three children as Liverpool FC took on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

The sides were the two English teams that took Jota to their hearts during his time playing at the clubs. Both sets of supporters shared special tributes throughout the match on an incredibly emotional afternoon that showed just how much the Portuguese forward meant to both teams.

Rute was in attendance and her two sons, Dinis and Duarte, were mascots as they led the teams out ahead of the Premier League encounter. 29-year-old Rute took to Instagram after the game and said how much the support has meant to the family since Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically died in a car accident in July.

She said: "From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the club and to all the fans for the love, respect and support shown during this incredibly difficult time. Your messages and gestures have meant more than words can express."

It is understood Rute and the family have relocated back to Portugal and she shared another tribute to her husband last night. She revealed she has ran the Porto 10km in honour of her husband.

Jota will forever be associated with the number 20 shirt he wore at Liverpool, which has been retired at the club to preserve his legacy. Rute wore the number 20 for her run in the Portuguese city.

She held a medal and posed with friends who had completed the run, as she captioned the post: "20+10".

Alisson Becker's wife, Natalia, was one of many to take to the comments to praise Rute after the update. A translation of her post said: "I love you and admire you a lot my friend."

Other followers all took to the comments to share messages of support after the update. Ste said: "Well done Rute, Diogo would be proud. You'll never walk alone."

Doris posted: "Keep going Rute! Stay strong like Diogo would’ve done. Your kids are the biggest blessing and memories are our reminders of the strongest love between you both!"

Daniel added: "Sending so much love, Diogo would be so proud nice to see you smiling." Oliver commented: "Diogo would be proud."

During the family's time in Liverpool, the family called an area of Blundellsands home. The ECHO spoke to neighbours ahead of Saturday's emotional occasion who praised the humble, kind family.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "They were very private people. They didn't really interact. They lived a quiet, calm, private life there. It didn't diminish in any way how people felt about him when he died. We all felt that a presence was now gone from the neighbourhood.

"We all were proud that we had such a notable neighbour there that was such a good ambassador for the club and such a nice, young person.

"I didn't know him, I didn't speak to him, but if you acknowledged him, he would acknowledge you. He seemed to be a very kind and considerate person."
