Christmas has been and gone – which Premier League teams woke up to a full stocking and which were greeted by a pile of coal under the Christmas tree?
We only got one regular Boxing Day fixture this year, with the rest of the games being pushed to the 27th and the 28th. Despite this break in tradition, we were nonetheless treated to some excellent games of football. One question persists – who made it into our festive Premier League team of the week?
GK: Martin Dubravka
Martin Dubravka had plenty of work to do for Burnley when the Clarets took on Everton, but the veteran shot-stopper stepped up to the plate.
He made no less than six saves against the Toffees – he helped his side keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 bore draw.
RB: Jeremie Frimpong
This was much better from Jeremie Frimpong, who has had a rotten start to life at Liverpool since his transfer move to Anfield in the summer.
He looked a like serious threat moving down the right flank, but didn’t neglect his defensive duties either. He played a smart cutback to Ryan Gravenberch for Liverpool to score their opening goal of the game.
CB: Ayden Heaven
Ayden Heaven is rapidly maturing into one of the best young defenders in the Premier League – his display against Newcastle United was outstanding.
He met everything that came into the box as Manchester United kept the Magpies at bay to record a much-needed 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
CB: Kevin Danso
Once again, Kevin Danso showed that he is one of the most underrated stars in the Premier League with another battling display against Crystal Palace.
Winning the majority of his aerial duels against the dangerous Jean-Philippe Mateta, Danso was crucial to Tottenham’s efforts at Selhurst Park.
LB: Patrick Dorgu
Patrick Dorgu has been largely unspectacular since he just joined Manchester United, but he was firing on all cylinders when they took on Newcastle.
He scored a spectacular volley in the first half, which proved to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over the Mags.
