Micah Richards makes brilliant 'prime Barcelona' comparison that Leeds United fans will love

A foundation of Leeds United’s success this season has been Daniel Farke’s ability to adapt and change and focus on Leeds’ strengths, which, a lot of the time has been physicality.

The recent run of games proves that. Leeds beat up a weak Chelsea at Elland Road to win 3-1, with duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha proving too much for Chelsea’s backline during the victory.

The same happened against Crystal Palace, Leeds proving far too strong from set-pieces, and the Eagles simply had no answer for it. But Leeds can do both; they can score goals by being technically sound, too.

On Sunday, Leeds produced one of the goals of the season that will have had Daniel Farke beaming from ear to ear, inside. Every single player touched the ball before Calvert-Lewin flicked home an equaliser.

Micah Richards compares Barcelona to Leeds after Sunday’s goal

It was a wonderful goal, so easy on the eye, and a potential goal of the season. Starting on the right, Ao Tanaka, Ethan Ampadu, Jayden Bogle and Jaka Bijol played it back to Lucas Perri, who switched the play.

Pascal Struijk, Noah Okafor, and Gabi Gudmundsson found Anton Stach, who sprayed the ball to Brenden Aaronson. He fed Calvert-Lewin. Richards compared Leeds to “prime Barcelona” on The Rest Is Football.

Alan Shearer asked: “What about their goal?” Richards replied: “This is what I’m trying to say. It was like a prime Barcelona. Tiki Taka, through the lines, into the space, out wide, into the box, Calvert-Lewin scores.”

When Calvert-Lewin scored his first Leeds goal in a 3-1 win away at Wolves earlier this season, many thought he jumped the gun when he said that the Leeds side had put a “rumour” to bed with the win.

Calvert-Lewin said that the win proved Leeds had enough in attack. The Whites would then go on a run of six losses in seven. However, the last four outings have seen Leeds net a total of 12 goals in their last five.

While he might have gone a yard early with his claim after Wolves, Calvert-Lewin is being proved right. Leeds do have enough in attack to score goals, even if most Leeds fans would like a bit more depth.
