'I know': After Semenyo, Liverpool look set to miss out on second rumoured target after transfer admission

Liverpool fans are hoping for a busy January transfer window in which their team bolsters its attacking ranks.

The Reds are looking a little threadbare in forward areas heading into the New Year, and supporters are keen to see this addressed in the market.

Antoine Semenyo appears to have been Liverpool‘s primary target, with the Ghanaian all-but certain to leave Bournemouth.

But reports suggest Semenyo is close to joining Man City, leaving Liverpool to look at different options.

Back in November, Bola VIP reported that Anderlecht winger Nilson Angulo is another player on the radar at Anfield, linking him with a £9m move. However, the Ecuadorian has now spoken out to suggest a move to Liverpool will not happen.

Nilson Angulo claims Liverpool rumours are not true

With all the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool, a new wide forward feels like a must for Arne Slot.

Angulo would seem like an unorthodox target in that he would have to make a big leap from the Belgian league to one of the top clubs in the world.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old has been having a good season with Anderlecht, registering five goals and five assists so far.

But while this has led to claims that he could leave, Angulo himself has told Belgian newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen that he is not aware of any interest from Merseyside.

“I have seen articles about Celta Vigo and Liverpool,” he said via Ecuadorian outlet Tera Deportes. “Until my agent says something, I know it’s not true. I am totally focused on Anderlecht. I want to give something back to this club for all the patience they have had with me.”

Who is Nilson Angulo?

For plenty of Liverpool fans, this is likely to be their first time hearing of Angulo. That is never a good sign regarding a potential move. Despite that, it is clear that the left winger has a high ceiling and plenty of talent.

Already an 11-cap Ecuador international, Angulo arrived at Anderlecht in 2022 after coming through the ranks with LDU Quito.

The right-footed forward alludes to the Belgian side’s patience with him, and that is fair, given that he played only 25 times during his first two seasons in Brussels. Things have stepped up in the past two years, with Angulo now a key player for Besnik Hasi’s team.

Scoring and assisting with more regularity – usually from the left of the attack – the South American is starting to show why Anderlecht took a punt on him as a teenager.

He may not be due to join Liverpool any time soon, but Angulo is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on for the future.
