The January transfer window is now just around the corner, and clubs across Europe are preparing for a busy few weeks. Antoine Semenyo has dominated Premier League transfer talk in recent weeks. The Bournemouth forward has a £65million release clause and is keen for a decision in the coming days, with both Manchester City and Liverpool showing particular interest.

Antoine Semenyo’s representatives are set to travel to Manchester as Manchester City begin talks with Bournemouth over his £65m release clause. The clubs aim to conclude the signing of the 25-year-old winger when the transfer window opens on January 1. Semenyo’s representatives are also expected to finalise personal terms on a long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium. So far, Manchester City are the only club to approach Bournemouth regarding the release clause, which is believed to be active from January 1 to January 10.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates has also been in the spotlight. Coates joined the Reds from Nacional in August 2011 after being named the best young player at that year’s Copa America. He made 12 appearances in his debut season, highlighted by a sensational acrobatic volley against Queens Park Rangers.

The defender featured another dozen times in 2012-13, Brendan Rodgers’ first season as manager. However, injury setbacks the following year prevented him from establishing himself under the Northern Irishman. Coates spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Sunderland before making a permanent switch to the Black Cats in July 2015. He later played for Sporting CP and has now returned to Uruguay’s Nacional.

Coates’ current contract was set to expire this month, but Nacional confirmed the 35-year-old has extended his deal for another year. Since rejoining his boyhood club in January 2024, Coates has made 59 appearances in all competitions. He also boasts 51 caps for the Uruguay national team.
