Wanted by PSG & Chelsea: Rangers could sign new Kent in star who's "dominating defenders" -…

Glasgow Rangers attacking midfielder Thelo Aasgaard scored his second goal for the club in all competitions when he found the back of the net against Motherwell on Saturday.

The Norway international has failed to deliver consistent quality at the top end of the pitch in the Scottish Premiership, with two goals and two assists, since his move from Luton in the summer.

Aasgaard is simply one of a number of players who have been unable to hit the ground running at Ibrox this season, though, and that has left Danny Rohl in need of reinforcements next month.

Why Rangers need to sign a new winger

The German head coach needs to bring in another option out wide when the January transfer window opens for business, because his current options have not offered enough in the final third.

|Rangers wing options|

|25/26 Premiership|Appearances|Goals + assists|

|---|

|Mikey Moore|13|2 + 1|

|Thelo Aasgaard|15|2 + 2|

|Djeidi Gassama|18|1 + 1|

|Findlay Curtis|8|1 + 0|

|Nedim Bajrami|9|1 + 0|

|Oliver Antman|10|0 + 1|

|Kieran Dowell|2|0 + 0|

As you can see in the table above, none of the manager's current wingers have scored more than two goals or provided more than two assists in the Scottish Premiership this season.

These statistics show that Rangers need more quality in that department because they have not had a consistent source of goals or assists on the right or the left wing in the league under Russell Martin or Rohl.

The Light Blues are still looking for their next version of Ryan Kent, who scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in the 2020/21 campaign, per Sofascore, when Rangers last won the Premiership.

There is a reported Gers transfer target, though, ahead of the January window who could arrive at Ibrox as Rohl's own version of the English forward.

The Rangers target who could be their next Ryan Kent

Last month, it was reported that Rangers are one of a number of clubs interested in a deal to sign Trencin winger Sani Suleiman ahead of the January and summer transfer windows in 2026.

At the same time, it was claimed that Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bayer Leverkusen also want to sign the 19-year-old forward, whilst Paris Saint-Germain, Ajax, and Brentford have also been reported as possible suitors for the teenage starlet.

There is clearly big competition to land his services, as the likes of PSG and Chelsea want to sign him, but Rangers must push to win the race for his signature, because he could be their next Ryan Kent.

The Light Blues have fallen on the wrong side of deals like this in the past. For example, they were reportedly leading the race to sign Xavi Simons on a free transfer from PSG in 2022, only for PSV to eventually land him. He joined Spurs for £52m from RB Leipzig in the summer.

That is why Rangers must push extra hard to convince Suleiman that a move to Ibrox is the best next step for him in his career, as a stepping stone before he is ready to play for a team like PSG or Chelsea in the future.

As you can see in the table above, the 19-year-old star has already been directly involved in five goals in eight starts in the Slovakian top-flight so far this season.

Whilst some supporters may question how the Slovakian league compares to the Scottish Premiership, Suleiman's performances have been good enough to warrant interest from Chelsea, Spurs, and PSG, which speaks to the quality of his displays.

Writer and analyst Bence Bocsak described him as "one of the best wingers playing outside of Europe’s top five leagues this season" because he has been "dominating defenders with his directness", citing a dribble success rate of 71% this season.

A direct right-footed left winger who can dribble, score goals, and create goals? That sounds familiar. Suleiman, at 19, could arrive at Rangers with the potential to be their next big talent on the flank, as Kent once was.

The Nigerian talent has already scored more league goals (three) than any Rangers winger has managed this season (three), and his haul of two assists equals anything any Gers winger has produced.

This suggests that he could make an immediate impact at Ibrox as their most productive winger if he can hit the ground running in Scottish football, whilst also having the potential to develop into a Kent-like figure for the Scottish giants in the future, at the age of just 19.

This Glasgow Rangers star is in danger of becoming Alfredo Morelos 2.0 because of his plummeting value.

Therefore, Rangers must push hard to win the race for Suleiman's signature because he could be their next Kent, and avenge the deal they once missed out on with Xavi Simons.
