Jovan Buha drops a major claim about the Lakers' real issues despite looming aggressive trade pursuit.
In his appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Lakers insider and reporter Jovan Buha revealed that Los Angeles will be aggressive heading to the league's Feb. 5 trade deadline this season.
But he noted that the Lakers will face obstacles in solving the real issues they need to address.
"Outside of Herb Jones, maybe Andrew Wiggins if he becomes available in Miami, or Keon Ellis in Sacramento, or Ayo Dosunmu in Chicago, I’m not sure how much those players alone would truly solve their problems or change their standing in the West," Buha stated.
"They might help, and a couple of moves that add two or three new players could reshape the roster. But right now, it feels deeper than just one player."
The Lakers are currently at No. 4 in the West with a 20-10 standing.
Their record tells that they belong among the league's title contenders. But the Lakers are currently facing major issues, especially on the defensive side. They rank 25th on the defensive rating (117.4), while allowing opponents to score 48.6 percent from the field that stands fourth-to-last in league rankings.
What Buha mentioned are several trade candidates that the Lakers have been constantly linked with. Mainly, the four are well-known defenders who can capably do the dirty work.
Right now, it remains to be seen if the Lakers can orchestrate moves or eventually acquire one of those defensive players. Regardless of their record and position before the trade deadline, the team needs to improve in preparation for a potential deep championship run.
