Bucks’ Doc Rivers announcement after Hornets game trigger negative reactions

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers hit a major milestone in his coaching career in the NBA on Monday.

After steering Milwaukee to a123-113 victory against the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, Rivers moved to the fifth spot of the league’s all-time list for most coaching wins with 1,176 to his name as an NBA bench tactician. The 64-year-old Rivers entered Monday tied with George Karl with 1,175 wins.

Milwaukee fed off the big performances of Bobby Portis, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Myles Turner to lift the team past the Hornets.

Portis came off the bench and fired 25 points on 8/12 shooting from the field with five 3-pointers, while two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Antetokounmpo racked up 24 points on 11/16 shooting. Turner added 23 points on 7/12 shooting while recording four blocks for Milwaukee, which improved to 14-19.

The five coaches with more wins than Rivers in NBA history are Gregg Popovich, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan and Pat Riley.

Many congratulated Rivers, but others also took the opportunity to express their disapproval of the head coach.

“Congrats! NOW FIRE HIM,” said a fan on X.

Another one said: “Couldn’t think of a less deserving head coach”

From a commenter: “That’s great, you can fire him now”

“Let him retire as a gift,” a social media user posted.

Via a different commenter: “Cute…Now Fire him.”

Said another: “Get him outta my team you idiots”

There will always be fans who would love to see Rivers gone in Milwaukee, as they feel he’s just not the right one to lead the team.

Rivers can add another win to his name on Wednesday, when Milwaukee plays host to the Washington Wizards at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
