JJ Redick compared his own physical struggles to LeBron James remarkable condition as the Lakers star approaches his 41st birthday.

LeBron James is turning 41 on Tuesday, but his level of play continues to draw attention around the NBA. Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick explained how unusual James physical condition really is.

“It is remarkable,” Redick said. “I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning and got to get an injection on my knee. My body is old and broken. It’s like that [maxim]: If you don’t use it, you lose it. And once I stopped using it, I lost it all. I can still barely touch the rim though, which is nuts.”

James missed the first 14 games of the season due to sciatica and needed time to regain rhythm. Since then, he has looked sharp, averaging 25.4 points on 56.4 percent shooting over his last eight games, along with solid rebounding and playmaking.

Redick, who is also 41, made a clear comparison between a former role player and a generational superstar.

While Redick deals with daily physical pain after retirement, James is still logging heavy minutes, attacking the rim, and finishing above the basket.
