Liverpool Slammed For Missing Out On“Bargain”Who“Could Replace Salah Long Term”

**Former Liverpool player Jermaine Pennant has questioned the Reds’ decision not to pursue a deal for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.**

The Ghanaian international looks set to secure a move to Manchester City over the next few days. Liverpool were said to be in the mix for the [**winger**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-nilson-angulo-2/), who has a £65m release clause, and Pennant says the Merseysiders may regret not pushing harder to sign Semenyo, who could have been Mo Salah’s successor:

“As a Liverpool fan, I am really disappointed on the back of Isak getting injured, Salah being at AFCON and we don’t know what is going to happen with him, is he going to be leaving? For £65m, in this day and age and for a player of Antoine Semenyo’s quality, you would say it’s a bargain.”

“As for Liverpool not to be interested or make an approach to Bournemouth, it’s really stupid. He could be a player who could replace Salah long-term as well. You need someone Premier League-proven, that is absolutely vital. You see players come over to this league and can’t really cut it, but we know he can.”

City is Semenyo’s preferred destination

It should be noted that several other teams were also hoping to land the 25-year-old, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

However, trusted sources have claimed that Semenyo has made it clear to interested parties that he wants to make the switch to the Etihad. It’s likely that Liverpool did not push harder to secure his signature as they were already aware of his preference.

Will Liverpool pursue another forward?

--------------------------------------

The injury sustained by Alexander Isak and doubts over the futures of Mo Salah and Federico Chiesa have raised the odds of a new addition being brought in.

However, the Reds do not usually make bids for players unless they are 100% sure they are the right target. If Semenyo was the one they wanted, and they have missed out on him, they may wait until the summer to seek out an alternative.
