Newcastle United to rival Man Utd, Arsenal for 2g/5a Bundesliga teenager

Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle United: Joe Buck match reaction

Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Hoffenheim's Bazoumana Toure.

The winger joined the German side from Hammarby in Sweden for €10million (£8.7m) at the end of the January 2025 transfer window, registering three assists in his first 13 Bundesliga appearances. Still only 19 years old, Toure seems to have truly adjusted to life in Germany, hitting two goals and five assists in 14 league appearances at the start of this campaign, which has earned him a place in the Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations team.

Alongside a national team call-up, Toure’s form also seems to have alerted a number of Premier League giants, with CaughtOffside reporting that Man Utd, Arsenal and Brentford are all keeping him on their ‘radar’. The same report names Newcastle as another potential suitor, with ‘initial background checks and data-driven scouting’ taking place.

Toure’s ability in transition and tight spaces are thought to be extremely attractive to Premier League scouts. And indeed, he ranks first among Hoffenheim players in a number of key ball-carrying metrics, including successful take-ons (24), progressive distance carried (1,205 yards), carries into the final third (30) and carries into the penalty area (15).

As Toure continues to impress at the highest level, interest in his signature will only increase. Right now, it’s understood that bids in the €35m (£30.5m) have ‘circulated’, but Hoffenheim are extremely reluctant to let him leave mid-season - with Toure also first at the club for assists and second only to Vladimir Coufal (21) for chances created (19).

Instead, Hoffenheim internally value Toure at €44-45m, which is a figure they believe better reflects his potential and the negotiating power afforded to them the player’s contract, which is due to run until the summer of 2029.

What next for Newcastle United?

Despite going well in the Champions League and EFL Cup, Newcastle have struggled to get going in the Premier League, with just one win in their last five and six overall to sit 14th, nine points adrift of the top four. Up next for the Magpies is a trip to Burnley on Tuesday against the only team they’ve beaten in their last five league outings. Eddie Howe’s men must make the most of that fixture against a team winless in nine, with Newcastle hoping it can kick-start a run as they host Crystal Palace and Leeds at the start of January.

After that, it’s cup commitments in the FA Cup third round against Bournemouth and the EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City - both at home - and an away Premier League clash at bottom side Wolves.
