The new Hoops boss will already be well aware of the type of player Araujo is, having come up against him during their time in the MLS. The 24-year-old spent four years with LA Galaxy, while Nancy’s tenure before Celtic saw him head up CF Montreal and Columbus Crew from 2021 up until his move to Glasgow.

With Alistair Johnston out of action until March due to a recurring hamstring problem, Nancy is looking to sign a short-term replacement and Araujo is on the radar. He is expected to leave Bournemouth next month and Celtic are closely monitoring the situation on England’s south coast.

Araujo is looking for regular minutes on the pitch ahead of the World Cup, as he hopes for a chance to represent Mexico during the home tournament. The 21-year-old has made just one appearance for Bournemouth so far this season and is yet to make it off the bench in the Premier League.

Barcelona explain why Celtic would be getting a big talent in Julian Araujo

Prior to his move to England, Araujo spent time with La Liga powerhouses Barcelona. He joined the club in February 2023 before being loaned out to Las Palmas six months later for a season-long loan.

Despite not making any appearances for Barcelona’s senior team, the club were excited about his arrival and had a lot of praise for him.

While announcing his arrival from LA Galaxy, Barca wrote in their statement: “Julian Araujo brings plenty of speed and strength to the Barca Atletic squad, being widely admired for his ability to wins duels and for having a skilful touch on the ball.”

During his move, LA Galaxy also had a lot to say about their former player, having seen him come through the ranks of the club and grow from an exciting teenager into a first team player.

“Julian joining FC Barcelona is a great story of a young kid from Southern California coming into the LA Galaxy Academy, through LA Galaxy II and excelling with the First Team,” LA Galaxy Head Coach and Sporting Director Greg Vanney said.

“As we continue to evolve as a club, we’re leaning heavily into the LA Galaxy Academy development side. We are going to help develop players who can play at the biggest clubs in the world, but can also help the LA Galaxy win championships. We wish Julián all the best in the next phase of his career.”
