Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, with talks now at an advanced stage, according to reports. Discussions over the final details of his £65m release clause are ongoing, while City are also close to agreeing personal terms with the winger. There is no urgency to complete the move, with the clause active from January 1 to January 10 and no rival club expected to intervene.

City are the only side to have formally contacted Bournemouth, despite prior interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea. Chelsea and Spurs have since moved on to other targets. Semenyo enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in all competitions. He also made a strong start to the current season, netting twice on the opening day against Liverpool, despite Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat at Anfield.

The Ghana international went on to score against Brighton, Leeds United and Fulham before enduring a seven-match goal drought. However, he has rediscovered his form with three goals in his last three appearances against Manchester United, Burnley and Brentford. With nine league goals to his name, Semenyo currently sits third in the Premier League Golden Boot race, behind Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago.

Bournemouth reach the halfway point of their season with a trip to Chelsea on Tuesday night. According to Sky Sports, Semenyo is included in the squad for the Stamford Bridge clash, and it has not been ruled out that he could also feature on Saturday when the Cherries host Arsenal. Semenyo’s representatives were in Manchester on Monday to discuss personal terms with City, while positive talks were taking place between the two clubs.
