Marc Guehi might become of the transfer sagas of 2026.
In June 2025, DaveOCKOP exclusively reported that Liverpool were in direct contact with Marc Guehi over a move to Anfield.
From there, it seemed only a matter of time before the Crystal Palace captain made the move to Merseyside.
After a prolonged and quite public pursuit of the player throughout the summer window, the England defender stayed at Selhurst Park as the move to Liverpool collapsed on transfer deadline day.
Ever the professional, Marc Guehi has continued to perform at a high level for Palace throughout the season.
He hasn’t let the disappointment define his season and has shown observers why The Reds were so keen to sign him.
One of the factors that now come into play is the contract status of the 25-year-old.
Marc Guehi is entering the final six months of his contract and can join another side for free in the summer.
It’s clear to the football world that this will be his last year with the London side and Guehi will be playing for another side next season.
Liverpool are still being linked with him and their recent struggles at the back have only reinforced calls to strengthen in that position.
But his status means that other clubs are now interested and a significant player is ready to pounce.
AS report that Real Madrid have contacted Marc Guehi’s representatives and let them know that they’re interested in signing him.
The Spanish newspaper further reports that Liverpool are still interested in the Crystal Palace defender, but their negotiations will need to start from scratch owing to the current situation of the player.
Real Madrid have had a habit of signing some top class players on free transfers in recent times including Kylian Mbappe, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.
Trent Alexander-Arnold would also have joined for free if Los Blancos didn’t want to wait until after the Club World Cup 2025.
And it appears that they’re ready to pounce on another opportunity in this upcoming summer.
If Liverpool want to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield, it seems that they may need to convince the Englishman to ignore Real Madrid.
And that’s much easier said than done.
