Concern for Barcelona as 17-year-old January target suffers injury amid advanced talks

FC Barcelona are hoping to complete the signing of Hamza Abdelkarim in the coming days in order to reinforce their reserve team.

The Egyptian teenager is considered one of the great prospects on the African continent, and negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing.

An agreement is already in place between the Catalans and the player over a 3.5-year contract and Barcelona are hopeful that their latest offer will be accepted.

Hamza injured

However, in a concerning development, SPORT reports that even as talks between Barcelona and Al Ahly progress, Hamza Abdelkarim has suffered an injury.

During Al Ahly’s League Cup match earlier today, the 17-year-old striker was forced to leave the pitch in the 33rd minute after a challenge inside the penalty area.

The forward was attempting to receive the ball when he was caught from behind by a defender from Arab Contractors FC and immediately called for medical assistance.

Abdelkarim left the field showing clear signs of pain and holding his left ankle. In Egypt, it is assumed that the injury is a sprain caused by the impact, although the severity has yet to be determined, meaning the length of his absence is still unknown.

Barcelona will be watching the situation closely, considering that earlier reports suggested that talks over a deal with Al Ahly were in advanced stages following their latest offer.

A serious injury could derail the negotiations completely and put an end to Barcelona’s pursuit of the 17-year-old striker, who will be integrated into Barça Atletic should he arrive.
