There's no denying that the last few years of the [Washington Wizards rebuild](https://wizofawes.com/washington-wizards-rebuild-just-became-uncomfortable-race-against-clock) has been hard to watch.
Between the regretful decisions to give up on former lottery picks like Deni Avdija too soon, the team's historic bad luck plaguing them with unfavorable positioning in the NBA Drafts and failed veteran experiments in D.C., there hasn't been much for the Wizards fanbase to cheer for as of late.
Sure, the sophomore leaps of Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George have been a warm sight to see for a fanbase who have struggled to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but even those wins alone haven't been enough to suggests Washington was headed in the right direction.
To make matters worse, the [early season challenge](https://wizofawes.com/kyshawn-george-revealed-brian-keefe-blunt-postgame-challenge-washington-wizards) to his players from head coach Brian Keefe, which was followed by a players only meeting, made it seem as if the young team was heading in the wrong direction as a whole.
Fortunately, things in the DMV finally seem to be turning around, at least considering the state of the organization this time last week when they found themselves at the bottom of the NBA standings for yet another season.
Wizards recent stretch has created optimism

Obviously, the Wizards aren't making a run for a play-in spot in the East anytime soon, no matter how many games they string together.
Despite that, sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, there's only one direction the Wizards can go and that's up.
Lookng at the team's recent stretch, all indications suggest Washington may finally be heading in the right direction, at least in terms of their future rebuild.
Over the last seven games, the Wizards are 4-3 including back-to-back wins against the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies over the weekend.
By no means does this suggest Washington's rebuild is coming close to an end, but instead it simply indicates that head coach Brian Keefe may be finally getting a handle on his young team.
With a culture slowly but surely growing, and a team that's become willing to leave it all on the floor on a nightly basis, the Wizards are beginning to look like the scrappy defensive team that prioritizes ball movement on the offensive end.
There's still a long ways to go before the Wizards rebuild comes to an end, but the team's recent stretch of games prove that they're at least headed in the right direction.
