Willy Caballero replaced Enzo Maresca in Chelsea's post-match press conference following their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. The first half of the match in west London was a thrilling affair, with four goals evenly split between the two teams, but the second half proved less exciting.
This result means that Chelsea have ended December with a mere six points from a possible 18 in the Premier League. Maresca was unable to attend his media duties due to illness, so his assistant Willy Caballero - the former Blues and Manchester City goalkeeper - stepped in for the post-match press conference.
Caballero said of Maresca: "Yes, he hasn't been feeling well for the past couple of days. He had a slight fever two days ago but still conducted the last two training sessions as he wanted to prepare the team well for this match. However, after the game, he retreated to the changing room and asked me to step in as he wasn't feeling up to par. That's all I can share at the moment.
"I'm not sure [if I will take charge vs Man City in the next match, I just hope for Enzo's speedy recovery and believe he should be fine in a day or two."
And the Argentine assistant said on the result: "Well, as I said previously, it's a difficult start but we have to deal with that now, we have to improve that and we go the next couple of games and also the whole second half to improve that.
"In another view, it means that we are creating, we are scoring goals and we are opening the scoring sometimes, which is good, but we need to manage and find a way to win those points, kill those games because they are the games that we are going to need to achieve our target.
"Sometimes it's the small details, or perhaps the opponent finds a way to break through and create chances. We need to foster a mentality that doesn't allow them to disrupt our game, especially when we're investing so much. Today was a solid performance in terms of how we played and created opportunities.
"Unfortunately, we're discussing statistics more than individual performances like those of Estevao and Cole [Palmer]."
The decision to sub Palmer off was booed and Caballero said in response: "Naturally, every fan wants to see their best players on the field, and we share that sentiment.
"However, Cole is returning from a lengthy injury, so we have to make the right substitutions not only to win the match but also to ensure our players' health. We want them fit and ready for the long haul and for every match in the rest of the season.
