In the latest episode of The Old Man and the Three podcast, Johnson revealed that he's finally progressing in his knee rehabilitation and is already starting to see improvements.

"Just hyperextended that knee, came down a little awkward, but passed all those initial tests, which gave me comfort in terms of the stability of the joint and everything in there," he said.

"Ultimately, the worst-case scenario was avoided, and I’ll be back in a couple of weeks. I started the rehab process the last couple of days, and I’m already starting to see improvement, so I’ll be okay."

Johnson notably sustained a bone bruise and hyperextension in his right knee after an awkward landing in the Nuggets' road loss against the Dallas Mavericks from last week. It was reported that he evaded any structural damage, and he will be re-evaluated in four to six weeks.

He joined Christian Braun (ankle) and Aaron Gordon (hamstring) as another Denver starter on the team's injury list.

Although he is projected to return by late January, Johnson appears to be trending in the right direction. An earlier comeback could be on the table once he continues his positive progress.

After struggling earlier this season since he was acquired last summer from the Brooklyn Nets, Johnson emerged as a highly impactful contributor for Denver. He is averaging 11.7 points, 3.6 boards and 2.4 assists while draining a career-best 42.9 percent three-point shooting in 28 games before going down.

In the end, and despite the challenge that awaits them with Jokic inactive for at least a month, the Nuggets can only hope nothing but the best in Johnson's ongoing recovery.
