Celtic were already in need of a centre-back in the transfer window, but they now simply cannot end it without one.
Wilfried Nancy’s 3-4-3 formation has seen Anthony Ralston deployed as one of the three centre-backs next to Auston Trusty, Liam Scales or Kieran Tierney.
It is a move that simply hasn’t worked, with the proof in the pudding after Ralston was at fault against Livingston, among other games.
Dane Murray and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey have been waiting on the bench, but neither have been given a chance, and that has reportedly influenced Manchester City’s latest decision.

Man City to recall Jahmai Simpson-Pusey
According to the Daily Mail, Man City are set to recall Simpson-Pusey from his loan spell when the transfer window opens.
The 19-year-old has only made one appearance for the Hoops, which was under Martin O’Neill as a right-back in the 4-0 win against Kilmarnock.
Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of Simpson-Pusey and had high hopes for the defender to make an impact at Celtic Park, but it has been anything but that so far, with the report suggesting he will be loaned out again.

Celtic desperately need a centre-back
If Celtic weren’t planning on bringing in a centre-back next month, they best readdress that.
Cameron Carter-Vickers won’t kick a ball again this season and seeing Ralston out of position struggling has been painful enough.
Trusty, Scales, Tierney and Murray have all been inconsistent since Nancy’s appointment, and they need someone who can instantly make an impact in the style the Frenchman wants to play.

Alistair Johnston’s return will be most welcome; however, losing another defender in that position has made it a non-negotiable for the Bhoys this month.
Should no defender come in, consider that to be a failure.
