Chelsea’s brilliant£60M target’s January decision made up ahead of big move

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is expected to stay at Crystal Palace in January and run down the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park, amid reports that Chelsea are still interested in getting a transfer deal done for the defender.

CHELSEA have been spending some big money in the last couple of transfer windows and have started to look like a side that could challenge for that Premier League title in the next couple of seasons, but they have looked very shaky at the back this season under Enzo Maresca.

Guehi has established himself as one of the most highly regarded and sought-after defenders in Premier League football since leaving boyhood side Chelsea for Palace in 2021.

A series of strong performances at Euro 2024 only enhanced Guehi’s reputation and the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool were all credited with an interest following those performances for his country a few seasons ago.

Palace managed to fend off their Premier League rivals to keep hold of Guehi and handed the centre-half the captain’s armband ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but BBC Sport report that CHELSEA, Liverpool and Manchester City are leading the race for Guehi, who will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Foreign clubs such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan are also monitoring the situation. Guehi can discuss a Bosman move abroad from January 1.

However – the reports have claimed that despite all the interest this transfer window, it is much more likely that Guehi will stay at Palace until the end of the season and then will have his pick of clubs to choose from.

IcFootballnews Says…

Guehi is a quality defender that has the ability to play for clubs like Liverpool and CHELSEA, so it will be interesting to see just who he chooses if an offer arrives in the coming weeks.

At the end of the day, he is ready for that next step that is for sure and when offers do start coming in, Palace may make the decision to try and take some money this transfer window rather than letting him leave the club at the end of the season.

But he needs to make the right career choice, he needs to make sure that he joins a club that will give him the game time he needs.
