San Antonio Spurs trade plans revealed

The Spurs aren't reportedly planning any blockbuster moves ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, but could use Kelly Olynyk's $13.4 million expiring contract as a salary filler in a smaller deal for a rotational upgrade.

The San Antonio Spurs are expected to use Kelly Olynyk's $13.4 million expiring contract as a potential trade asset, according to Evan Sidery of Forbes.

"San Antonio doesn't plan to make a splashy deal during trade season, but a rotational upgrade is possible with Olynyk as a salary filler alongside draft capital," Sidery added.

Olynyk has appeared in 18 games this season, averaging 4.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, shooting 51.1% from the field and 29.2% from three-point range.

He has provided valuable frontcourt depth for the Spurs, seeing more minutes while star Victor Wembanyama recovered from a calf strain.

The Spurs acquired Olynyk last offseason from the Washington Wizards, sending Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, and a 2026 second-round pick in return.

At 34, Olynyk is in his 13th NBA season. He previously spent four years with both the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat before moving around the league, and he has career averages of 10.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 37% from three-point range.

San Antonio is currently 23-9, sitting second in the Western Conference.
