Arsenal Eye £39m Move To Sign Serie A Gem Who Could Solve Arteta's Injury Woes

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing a left-back amid their current injury problems at the position.

The Gunners are heading into the January transfer window at the top of the Premier League table, hoping to extend their lead by beating Aston Villa on Tuesday night at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta may be forced to get creative with his team selection though, as the likes of Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber, Ben White and more could miss the game due to injuries. Furthermore, Gabriel has only just returned, so the defence could be somewhat of a mishmash.

Last time out against Brighton, he was forced to play Declan Rice in defence, so heading into January, Arteta may decide to add more depth in defence to combat the recent injury problems that his side have faced.

Arsenal want to sign £39m AC Milan star

As transfer reports heat up just days away from the window opening, it has been said that Arsenal may decide to go after AC Milan left-back Davide Bartesaghi, who is very highly-rated in the Serie A.

According to the Daily Briefing, both Arsenal and Man City are keen on the defender, who is expected to command a fee of around £39m. It isn’t cheap, but the 20-year-old is a really good player; He is also young, so could turn into a world class player, much like Arsenal’s hopes for Mosquera and Piero Hincapie.

So far this season, the AC Milan star has made 13 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing one assist, featuring as a left-back and a centre-back on a regular basis.

Lewis-Skelly could leave amid Bartesaghi rumours

Should Arsenal sign Bartesaghi in January, he would be a similar acquisition to Riccardo Calafiori, who has become a reliable starter every week for Arteta at left-back. Since Calafiori’s emergence, Lewis-Skelly has lost his place in the starting XI, and he could be even further down the depth chart if they sign another defender.

Furthermore, Lewis-Skelly was linked with a move away earlier in the year, so he could push for a loan move if Arsenal were to sign Bartesaghi, as his route to regular first team football would be much more difficult.
