Ex-Liverpool star Morton has just told Elliott what he must do next after disastrous loan spell - opinion

Harvey Elliott looks likely to return to Liverpool after a terrible six-month spell at Aston Villa.

The Reds’ squad is filled to the brim with top talent, but unfortunately, there just are not enough spaces for all of them.

This is why many younger players end up moving away, with Elliott one of those who looked like he had made the next step in his career.

However, his loan would turn into a permanent transfer should he make 10 appearances, but Villa do not want to proceed, meaning he will return to Anfield, which could be as early as January.

Where he goes next really is a mystery at this moment in time, but former Red Tyler Morton may have just hinted at what he needs to do for the sake of his career.

Tyler Morton hints at why Harvey Elliott should move abroad

Due to Premier League rules, Elliott cannot play for another Premier League club this season after already featuring for both Villa and Liverpool.

That leaves him with just two options; Stick around at Anfield in the hope of some minutes or take the bold step of moving abroad.

Morton is just one example of an ex-Red who did the latter after joining French side Lyon, with the Englishman absolutely thriving.

He has recently spoken about how important he has felt his switch to Ligue 1 was, too, with it suggesting that Elliott would benefit from doing similar.

“It is great for players my age to go out and experience different cultures, different countries, different people,” he said as per the Daily Mail.

“My mate Jarell [Quansah at Bayer Leverkusen] is doing amazing after going abroad. Sometimes the answer is not staying in England and the Premier League, it is to go to a big club in a different country and learn a lot. I am definitely finding myself, I am really happy here.”

Although he has all the talent in the world, Elliott just was not a part of Arne Slot’s plans, and it is hard to see why he would be now given how he has fared at Aston Villa.

If he is recalled in January, sticking around for the rest of the season does not seem smart as it is hard to see where he gets minutes, even though the Reds are fairly short of attacking options.

Instead, he should waste no time and make a permanent switch abroad, with the 22-year-old likely not short of suitors given how many wanted him in the summer.

RB Leipzig were one of the clubs interested, and a move to the Bundesliga might suit him perfectly, although he needs to put the first half of the season’s disappointment behind him.
