Wesley Fofana has admitted Chelsea will "continue to work" after his side's disappointing 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

The Blues' poor Premier League form extended to one win in seven games as the Cherries held on for a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. Goals from Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez were cancelled out by David Brooks and Justin Kluivert, leaving the west Londoners fifth in the table and 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

"It was a tough game," Fofana said. "We tried to give everything, but we didn’t kill the game in the second half.

"We had a few chances we didn’t score. We need to kill the game and we need to score. We had chances.

"It’s not only about the forward players, but it’s everyone. Sometimes it’s like this. We try everything, and we need to progress on that in future games."

All four goals came in the first half, with Chelsea pegged back by the visitors after leading twice. Fofana has now called on the squad to do better in the second half of the season.

"We need to do better, we need to analyse and try to progress on that," the Frenchman said. "When you concede two, it’s a bit frustrating.

"When we don’t win, we miss opportunities, but we take one point from tonight. As I said before, we are only in December, and we need to progress for sure and win more games. It’s not finished, and we will continue to work."

Chelsea travel to Manchester City on Sunday and Fofana does not think the side are too far away from challenging the likes of Pep Guardiola's side. "I think we are getting closer – we are just missing small details," he added.

"It’s been an up and down year. We got into the Champions League and we won the Club World Cup, which was good. We know we need to progress more, we need to work more and keep working hard. We are all together. The next game is a big game against Manchester City, and we need to take the three points."
