Since joining Manchester City, Gianluigi Donnarumma has become as an important player for the Citizens.
Initially, there were doubts about his suitability for Pep Guardiola’s system but those doubts have evaporated quickly.
The manager has altered his setup to fit the needs of the goalkeeper, which is very different to how things were at Paris Saint-Germain.
He didn’t fit Luis Enrique’s demands and his wages were also proving to be a problem for the French side.
Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola has now spoken to Radio Sportiva about his client’s situation at Manchester City. He went on to take a shot at PSG’s decision to sell the Italian.
“It’s been a busy summer for him, given what happened in Paris. Maybe one day they’ll explain what happened in their evaluations, but today we’re enjoying a great performance by City.”
Speaking further about his situation at the Etihad, Raiola said: “When Gigio arrived, things improved in terms of results, and now we’re battling with Arsenal for the top spot. There will be a lot of games in January, but the first six months have gone well. He and the club are happy, and that’s fine.”
Raiola also spoke of Donnarumma’s excellent relationship with Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland.
He said: “From day one, he had a bond with him. They were both in our team in the past and therefore worked for the same agency. After Mino’s death, the connection remained, and he even resembles Gigio in personality. They are both exceptional guys, and that was the key.”
Donnarumma has settled in well at his new club. He is getting along well with his teammates, with Guardiola doing all he can to negate his weaknesses on the ball.
Ederson was more proficient on the ball than Donnarumma but the Italy international is a far better shot-stopper.
That is why Guardiola’s effective use of the 26-year-old should mark a key point in his career.
