The relationship between Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah experienced a rather large bump earlier this month.
While the Egyptian returned to the first team soon after, talk around his future at Anfield is refusing to go away. A return to AS Roma has been floated as a sensational possibility today.
This comes from La Repubblica – relayed by LaRoma24. Work is ongoing behind the scenes to bring Salah back to Roma from Liverpool.
The Italian side would find Salah’s current wage to be ‘terrifying’ but they are only looking at a six-month loan, and having the player obviously brings commercial benefits too.
Even if the 33-year-old takes a pay cut, Roma would have to pay him €12m per season. This will be too much for them if they’re funding it alone. That is why the Liverpool man would only be a ‘surprise gift’ for Gian Piero Gasperini.
Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori remain the main targets as they are much more affordable.
This feels like something La Repubblica were informed about by intermediaries, perhaps with the intention pressure Roma. Should bringing Salah back become a topic among fans, and they push the club, then the intermediaries have a better chance of success and commission.
