Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has made a Premier League title prediction after the Gunners’ 4-1 win against Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted with the way his side were able to dismantle Villa, who beat the Gunners just under a month ago. Arsenal won 4-1 at the Emirates thanks to goals from Gabriel, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus.

It left Arteta’s side five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and the Gunners have now put all the pressure on Manchester City to get a result in their next game against Sunderland on New Year’s Day.
Arsenal have been title favourites all year long, but they silenced a lot of doubters on Tuesday, and are now in pole position to win their first Premier League trophy since the 2003/04 season under Arsene Wenger.
Merson predicts Arsenal will “easily” win the Premier League
After the stunning Villa victory, former Arsenal star Paul Merson spoke on Sky Sports about how he thinks the Gunners will “easily” win the league, based on how good they were on Tuesday night.
Merson said: “‘It was an outstanding 30 minutes from Arsenal in the second half. They suffocated Aston Villa and made them look pretty average in the end. With the away fixtures they have already played and this result against Villa, I don’t know who will stop them.
“They play all the big teams apart from Man City at home and playing like that, it’s hard to see them being stopped. I think they win the Premier League quite easily. It was a statement result and Man City will have been watching. They will be thinking “wow” after that from Arsenal.”
Arteta left “very happy” after Villa win
Following the game, Arsenal boss Arteta expressed his happiness with his side in his post-match press conference. He re-iterated how good Villa are as a team, and said that the result has helped to keep Arsenal’s confidence at an all-time high.
Arteta said: “I’m so happy. We play every three days, we played an opponent today that comes from 11 wins in a row, a superb team, very difficult to play against and we knew that we were going to have periods throughout the game.
“Unlike the last few games where we had so many big situations, today we were very prolific and accurate to make the difference.”
