Manchester United are believed to be monitoring a highly-rated Bundesliga winger as Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo edges closer to a move to rivals Manchester City
Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are reportedly one of the club’s weighing up a potential move for highly-rated RB Leipzig prodigy Yan Diomande.
Ruben Amorim hinted before the start of the January window that his side would be in the market for reinforcements after an inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign, but added that the club will only make a signing during the winter window if there is "common ground" with director of football Jason Wilcox about which players can improve the squad.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola opted to start Semenyo during his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea despite the rampant speculation and is adamant that the winger has not yet played his last game. It’s believed Bournemouth want him to play against the Gunners and then Tottenham on Wednesday, 7 January before the release mechanism in his deal elapses on 10 January.
Semenyo’s potential switch to the Etihad leaves City in an increasingly strong position to challenge leaders Arsenal for this year’s title, while Amorim is now going to be forced to look at alternatives that can add fresh dynamism to his team.
Man Utd interested in Yan Diomande
He understands that the club are not guaranteed to be in the market for a winger after missing out on Semenyo, but adds that United may make a move for Diomande in January if club’s start bidding on the highly-rated Ivory Coast international.
Khan explains: “Manchester United are one of the clubs monitoring RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. United not guaranteed to pursue another winger after missing out on Antoine Semenyo but may move for Diomande if other clubs start moving for the highly-rated forward in this window.”
United previously signed Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig for £73.7m over the summer. Diomande moved to the Red Bull Arena from Leganes in the same window and has outscored the Slovenian with seven goals and four assists from 16 appearances this term.
The highly-rated 19-year-old winger, who is renowned for his blistering speed, agility and eye for goal, is currently representing Ivory Coast at AFCON and has helped the team achieve four points from their opening two group stage matches.
Man Utd receive intriguing transfer boost
Earlier reports claimed that the teenager was valued at £87m (€100m), but fresh insight from Sky reporter Khan claims those figures were exaggerated.
He posted on X: “There have been reports Leipzig value him at £87m (€100m) but understand player’s value understood to be more in the region of £52m-£61m (€60m-€70m).”
