Opinion: Liverpool handed enormous Marc Guehi transfer boost

Liverpool are well aware they've got a major battle on their hands when it comes to Marc Guehi.

The sheer number of clubs interested in getting a deal agreed for the Englishman is ridiculous.

From clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in Spain, to Chelsea, Manchester City and the Reds in England, with Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and others littered across Europe, the defender is without doubt the most in-demand player in the world, as he's soon to be a free agent.

His position as Crystal Palace's captain, England's best centre-back and one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, are all significant parts of why he's such a highly-valued asset.

Liverpool came agonisingly close to signing him for £35m last summer, which would've enabled the club to avoid the carnage that is set to unfold at the end of the season. In spite of how difficult it might be for the Reds to fulfil their ambition, we might just have been given a boost to our hopes.

Guehi's intentions spark Liverpool optimism

According to Football Insider, the 26-year-old defender is focusing on himself for the remainder of the season, looking to deliver his best for the Eagles to leave his time at Palace on a good note.

In the latest report it said: "Guehi has made it very evident that he is an ultimate professional, and any decision he does will be left until the season is over."

When you consider that soon-to-be free agents hold the right to speak to European clubs six months before the end of their deal to agree a pre-contract, with English clubs only allowed to negotiate one month ahead of time, the implication of his stance is that he wants to remain in the Premier League.

That wouldn't necessarily mean that he doesn't want to join Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, or other clubs offering a place in their team. As the report notes, he is 'set to have a pick of the clubs in Europe next summer', and that kind of assessment will take time, which might be why he's waiting.
