The latest Manchester United and Manchester City transfer news with the January window officially open for business
The transfer window is now open for business with the New Year upon us.
Manchester City and Manchester United are both expected to complete some business with exits expected at both clubs while arrivals are also on the cards but no mega-money deals are anticipated as things stand.
The Red Devils need reinforcements to address their inconsistent form as they drew 1-1 with rock-bottom Wolves in their last outing. Rob Edwards’ side have lost 16 of their 19 Premier League games, with their draw against United only the third time they had managed to pick up points.
Meanwhile, City are five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race but have played one game fewer as they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Thursday night. With the games coming thick and fast, here is some of the latest City and United transfer news with the window now open.
Nathan Ake rejects move to West Ham United
The Dutchman is open to leaving the Etihad Stadium this month but does not want to join a team fighting relegation. Ake has only made eight appearances in the Premier League this campaign, with just two starts.
He is a target for Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace and his rejection of West Ham will come as a boost to the Premier League trio. City have put a £21m price tag on Ake with Barcelona among clubs linked.
Man Utd weigh up offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta
The 28-year-old France international has 18 months left on his contract at Selhurst Park but talks over a new deal are currently at an impasse.
The Red Devils have long been linked with Mateta, who has scored nine goals in all competitions this campaign - including a goal as United beat Palace 2-1 in London last month.
He scored 17 goals for the club last season as they won the FA Cup. He joined on a £9m deal in 2022 but would still likely command a big transfer fee this month, with his price tag likely to drop in the summer if he has still not penned a new contract.
