What has happened with Harvey Elliott this season?
One of the unsung heroes of the Liverpool squad in the past few years, Elliott was always a player who made a difference whenever he was on the pitch for The Reds.
Whether it was grabbing a crucial goal or getting a valuable assist, the former Fulham man always seemed to be involved in something.
Despite his endeavours at Anfield, Harvey Elliott was never seen as a first choice for the team.
One of the reasons for that was a certain Mohamed Salah playing in his position.
Displacing The Egyptian King in the first team was always going to be near impossible.
With that in mind, and having shown his clear talent, it was decided that it would be best for all if Elliott left the club and started afresh somewhere else.
Liverpool fans were disappointed with the news, but ultimately understood the logic behind it.
Aston Villa signed Harvey Elliott on loan with it turning permanent based on the player making a certain number of appearances.
Things started well for Elliott at the Birmingham side, with him grabbing a goal on his full debut for the club against Brentford in the EFL Cup.
However, since then, things have gone decidedly downhill.
Aston Villa have been flying high, currently sitting third in the English Premier League table, but it’s not been because of Harvey Elliott.
His last appearance for the club was playing 45 minutes against former club Fulham in September.
Since then, he hasn’t made the squad for any English Premier League game.
That’s a full three months removed from even the bench.
In that time, fellow loanee Jadon Sancho has seen plenty of minutes in contrast.
It’s evident to all who see that Villa manager Unai Emery doesn’t fancy the Liverpool attacker and now there’s an update on the entire situation.
The Daily Mail report that Aston Villa are expected to terminate the loan agreement for Harvey Elliott.
With that in mind, the British newspaper reports that sides from Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA are interested in signing Elliott.
The United States of America is going to host the FIFA World Cup this upcoming summer and bringing in a player like Harvey Elliott would bring eyeballs to the product before the big summer showpiece.
No clubs are mentioned in the report, so it’s unclear right now where Elliott may land in the USA or whether it’s on loan or permanent.
It will be interesting to see whether the Liverpool star sees MLS as an opportunity to experience something new already in his career or if he feels he has more to achieve in Europe first.
After all, it’s rare for a 22-year-old Premier League star to swap the English league for the USA.
It might just be a case of wait and see what happens on that front.
What is certain is that we can all expect to see some sort of official announcement soon that Aston Villa no longer count of the services of Harvey Elliott for the 2025/26 season.
