Derby County loan deal for Liverpool defender canceled

Derby County are having an interesting campaign in The Championship.

Sitting in 14th place as we speak, they’re sat almost halfway between the promotion and relegation places.

If they went on a great run, they could challenge some of those looking to make it to the English Premier League.

Conversely, if they went on a disastrous run, they could be pulled back into the mire towards League One.

Just to emphasise how interesting their season has been, they’ve won 8 games, drawn 8 games and lost 8 games.

Goal difference for Derby County is exactly zero,

Talk about symmetry.

The Rams officially confirmed the permanent signing of Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson yesterday.

Sanderson links up with former boss John Eustace, who he played with at The Blues.

Derby County will be hoping that they are able to shore up their defence with his acquisition.

That’s because one of the defenders that they were hoping to rely on this season is no longer there.

Owen Beck officially joined Derby Country from Liverpool on a season long loan in July.

Unfortunately for Beck, he suffered a serious injury in August and had to go undergo surgery in November.

With that surgery, Owen Beck had returned to his parent club and many speculated that The Reds would terminate his loan.

And that news has now been confirmed.

The Athletic report that Liverpool have formally terminated the loan agreement with Derby County for Owen Beck.

Although neither club has officially reported the news, The Athletic seem to be implying that they’ve told that the formalities have been confirmed on this.

What’s likely to happen here is Liverpool will wait for Beck to recover and then look to find another club for the defender to join.

For now, the story between Owen Beck and Derby County has been concluded for the 2025/26 season.
