Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has posted a heartfelt New Year's message on social media, reflecting on what he called an 'unimaginable low' during 2025. The football community was left devastated by the death of Diogo Jota, who tragically died alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car crash last summer.
Looking back on the past 12 months, Van Dijk shared on Instagram: "2025... it's a year that will always stay with me. It was a year of success on the pitch - The Premier League. Achieving World Cup Qualification. Breaking the record of being captain for my country.
"We shared times together that will last a lifetime. So many highs, moments of joy and achievements that we should be proud of. [But] 2025 brought one unimaginable low. We lost our brother Jots.
"He was more than just part of a football team. His absence is felt every day, and his loss changed us forever.
"I want to wish you all happiness, health, peace, love, positivity and success for 2026."
