Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, as per Caught Offside.
The 30-year-old moved to the Allianz Arena as a free agent back in 2018 after running his contract down with FC Schalke. He has enjoyed great success at the Bavarian club over the years, winning six Bundesliga titles, a Champions League trophy, and several other major cup competitions.
However, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in recent times. Bayern Munich were ready to cash-in on him last year and didn’t even allow him to play for the first team during the first few months of last season.
But he forced his way into Vincent Kompany’s starting line-up by displaying impressive performances. This season, the German has been playing a key role for Bayern Munich in their push to challenge on all fronts.
Now, Caught Offside claim that with Goretzka’s existing deal set to expire at the end of this season, Bayern Munich are ready to cash-in on him this month if they receive a suitable proposal.
The 30-year-old’s representatives have started exploring options in the market to find a new club for him and have offered Arsenal the chance to secure his services.
Apart from the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have also received the opportunity to sign him. Outside of the Premier League, Juventus and Napoli are interested in him, with Antonio Conte’s side stepping up efforts to sign him.
Goretzka to Arsenal
However, Arsenal don’t want to seal the deal this month and are willing to wait until next summer to sign him as a free agent. Man Utd are also looking to take a similar approach, but Spurs are ready to purchase him in this window.
Goretzka, valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt, likes to play in the double midfield pivot role but is also comfortable in the box-to-box position. He is dynamic, strong, good in the air, has the ability to chip in with some important goals, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
The German is an experienced player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they opt to sign him in this window.
