Liverpool's player ratings vs Leeds as the Reds start 2026 with yet another lacklustre performance

It might be a new year but it was the same old Liverpool after yet another lacklustre performance.

Reds fans would have been hoping that they could start 2026 with a solid outing and comfortable win, but that was not the case whatsoever.

Who was the most disappointing performer against Leeds?

Instead, they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home, with their lack of creation a real worry, and the home fans certainly made their feelings known.

There were a few good individual performances, but overall, Arne Slot will not be happy at all, with the new year not getting off to the best of starts. Here are how the players rated at Anfield.

Defence

Alisson Becker: 6 – Got lucky that his poor pass was not punished by Ethan Ampadu after a weak effort, with this moment very unlike the Brazilian. Other than that, he looked pretty comfortable but was not tested on too many occasions.

Conor Bradley: 6 – Looked fairly solid at right-back and not troubled defensively too much. Had a good understanding with Jeremie Frimpong down the right and helped him out in attack where he could.

Ibrahima Konate: 7 – Did the simple things well and was on his toes to read the game and intercept to good effect. A well-needed clean sheet too.

Virgil van Dijk: 7 – Also did a good job and was tested physically by Lukas Nmecha on occasions but thwarted him well. Also did fairly well against Calvert-Lewin when he came on, something not many defenders have been able to say in recent weeks.

Andy Robertson: 6 – Put in some dangerous deliveries that his teammates should have done more with, while looking solid defensively without too many issues. Came off just after the hour.

Midfield

Ryan Gravenberch: 7 – Was neat on the ball, like always, and tried to take it forward where he could, although there were a few occasions where he did not pick the right pass. However, he was brilliant defensively and made some key interceptions.

Curtis Jones: 7 – Got the ball moving and worked hard, with the Englishman also surprisingly strong to hold off a number of challenges and retain possession. Tried his best to make risky passes too in the hope of a reward, although not all of them quite came off.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 6 – Looked a little sluggish in the first half after returning since suspension, by his standards at least, but still worked his socks off. Didn’t impact the game as much as he would have liked, but a one-off from him is probably allowed.

Attack

Jeremie Frimpong: 8 – Impressed with his pace and directness down the right, with the Dutchman keen to get to the byline and cut the ball back. Really good display defensively too with his tracking back, so it would not be a surprise to see him start on the wing more often.

Hugo Ekitike: 7 – Worked hard and led the line well, with his link-up play being one of his best attributes. Set Wirtz up for a good chance and almost scored one himself, but couldn’t get on the scoresheet in this one.

Florian Wirtz: 7 – Had a few moments where his intelligence was clear, although he was also sloppy at times on the ball. Wasn’t bad by any means, but certainly a little quieter than he had been in previous weeks.

Substitutes

Milos Kerkez: 5 – Showed plenty of energy when off the bench and tried to get forward where he could, but could not make an impact.

Cody Gakpo: 5- Came on and tried to bend one into the corner as always, which was blocked. Other than that, he did got get on the ball much so nothing to write home about.

Alexis Mac Allister: 5 – Came on for Jones and was fairly tidy on the ball, but the midfield did look a little overrun towards the end. He did put a dangerous ball into the box towards the end, but Szoboszlai couldn’t quite get on the end of it.

Federico Chiesa: N/A

Rio Ngumoha: N/A
