Leeds United claimed a precious point away at Liverpool in a goalless draw they thoroughly earned.

A tepid first half - in which Hugo Ekitike missed a glorious chance - otherwise saw limited chances, particularly for Leeds.

Liverpool looked the most threatening in the second half with Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo going close. But it was Dominic Calvert-Lewin who put the ball in the net - only for the offside flag to be raised.

Leeds clung on and went toe-to-toe at times on the second half, and they can be very proud of their efforts. Here are how the players rated.

Lucas Perri - Spilled a shot he should have gathered on 12 minutes. Held onto other shots decently enough. Almost got done for time-wasting and had to be told to be careful by Ethan Ampadu. 7

James Justin - Made two great blocks to deny Florian Wirtz in the first half and most of his touches were successful. Stood his ground against both Andy Robertson and Cody Gakpo. Headed away under pressure multiple times. 9

Sebastiaan Bornauw - Sturdy on his full Premier League debut, bar one hashed clearance that he had to head away himself. Was notably calm on the ball and positioned himself well. Very nearly got a debut assist. 8

Jaka Bijol - Got his head to a lot and was composed. Danger is when he has to chase the ball in behind. Luckily, that didn't happen too often. Minded Ekitike much better in the second half. 8

Pascal Strujik - A few loose moments against very good attackers, with pace also not his forte. He got his head on some dangerous balls and was notably solid toward the end. 8

Gabriel Gudmundsson - Drew a number of fouls and showed good intiative albeit was not perfect with a few loose pieces of play. But a customary solid performance in both directions with some super bits of play at times. 8

Anton Stach - Didn't look altogether comfortable on the right of the midfield four. Wasn't overtly poor but wasn't at his gallivanting best. Skewed one effort over the bar. 6

Ethan Ampadu - Dogged and determined, albeit was chasing most of the time in the first half. Got into the tackle decently but his yellow card for a handball means he misses the Manchester United game on Sunday. Led by example in terms of effort. 7

Ilia Gruev - Tidy and plugged a gap in the centre. Was brave with his head and in ground challenges amid simple play with the ball. Did lose a few balls, admittedly. But the dream squad player. 8

Brenden Aaronson - Got his toe in to win a few balls and spark counters. Ran and ran but made little mark on the second half side from one breakaway. 7

Lukas Nmecha - Had some good tussles with Virgil van Dijk but didn't win many, being more effective with the ball to feet. 6

SUBS

Jayden Bogle (83' for Bornauw) - Came on too late for a rating. N/A

Ao Tanaka (90' for Gruev) - Came on too late for a rating. N/A

Noah Okafor (70' for Aaronson) - Played in a wicked ball acorss the box that Leeds should have got on the end of late on. 7

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (70' for Nmecha) - So very nearly got the winner with a clever finish but for the offside flag. 7

MANAGER: Daniel Farke - His starting line-up did as expected - good defence but not much going forward. Personnel changes from the bench were decent, doing their job and adding impetus. Did what he needed to while resting who he could for Sunday, having almost won this one. 8
