Opinion: Jeremie Frimpong perfectly sums up how every Liverpool fan is feeling after watching Leeds draw

Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Leeds United on Thursday evening, continuing their trend of poor performances.

Arne Slot will point towards the fact that the Reds are now eight games unbeaten in all competitions after Leeds.

But some favourable results, such as beating nine-man Tottenham and just about getting three points against a winless Wolves, have done a lot to mask Liverpool’s underwhelming displays in recent weeks.

Yes, the Merseyside outfit have climbed back into the top four. But that is largely down to the teams around them underperforming, not Liverpool suddenly sparking into life after a run of three wins from 12 earlier this season.

In truth, barring a slightly improved backline, the Reds have still looked well off it, and the 0-0 draw with Leeds was no different.

Jeremie Frimpong frustrated after Liverpool draw with Leeds

Jeremie Frimpong shone in the first half against Leeds and was one of the few players to get the Anfield crowd up off their feet.

But even the Dutchman, speaking post-match as per BBC Sport, has admitted his frustration at Liverpool’s display on New Year’s Day.

He said: “Frustrating – we wanted to win the game. They defended well. At the end of the day, 0-0 very frustrating, but onto the next game.

“They defended really well. Obviously we tried, but we didn’t try hard enough. We had a couple, I had a couple I think I should have delivered the ball better.

“Training, recover, we know what we can do. We have created a lot of chances. We need to go into the next game and do what we need to do but better.

“We know what we should do, we know the movements and we know the patterns.”

Liverpool continue to waste their season with Arne Slot

Back during the aforementioned run of three wins from 12, there was talk about Liverpool sacking Slot.

However, FSG chose to stick with their manager and his job is likely still secure because, on paper, things have improved.

The reality is, however, Slot has shown little to prove he can actually get the Reds back to the level we saw from them in 2024/25 and take advantage of teams like Arsenal and Chelsea dropping points.

Instead, what’s now likely to happen is Liverpool will trudge along for the remainder of the campaign with the Dutchman doing just enough to keep himself in the dugout because, as history has shown us, FSG are not quick to sack managers.

But the only thing that will happen is the 2025/26 campaign will be wasted with mediocre displays when another manager potentially could have already been brought in and improved performances.
