“I mentioned before the game…” – Jamie Carragher gives damning verdict on Liverpool after Leeds …

Leeds United managed a huge result to kick off the New Year at Anfield. The Whites are now six games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Quite a turnaround from a team who could not buy a win around the end of November. Daniel Farke was under pressure, and was even tipped to be sacked before December. But Leeds have quietly turned things around and are one of the most in-form sides in the division.

Thursday night was much different from the clash at Elland Road; both sides were not as attacking, as the away side arrived with a plan. Leeds frustrated Arne Slot tactically, keeping the Reds out of their box for the whole of the 90 minutes. The club picked up a precious draw to start the year.

Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool after Leeds United result

Jamie Carragher, who was on Sky Sports during the game, slammed Liverpool for their performance. According to him, the Reds had the chance to capitalize on results earlier this week, but failed. Now, he has warned Arne Slot’s side to improve in the second half of the season:

“I mentioned before the game that this was a big opportunity for Liverpool when you consider some of the results this week, namely for Manchester United and Chelsea.

“As l said throughout the game, Liverpool are on a decent run but performances will have to improve in the second half of the season to make sure Liverpool play in the Champions League next season.”

Whites are on the up

It was a very unexpected result on Thursday night, and not because Leeds got a draw. In recent games, the Whites have been more attacking and quite open in games against teams of a similar level. But tonight, Daniel Farke chose to be more conservative, and his tactics on the counter attack nearly decided the game.

Leeds United have an impressive home record, where they have won most of their points this season, but they are now slowly finding their feet away from home. Tonight’s result makes it three games in a row that the Whites have not lost on the road; which is a huge boost after the team had picked up just three points outside Elland Road in September.

Things are all falling into place at Elland Road; the club are distancing themselves from the relegation zone as they look to achieve safety in the second half of the season.
