Liverpool have started 2026 with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Leeds.
The Reds failed to capitalise on both Man United and Chelsea dropping points this week, with Arne Slot’s side also only managing to pick up a point.
They really lacked creativity in the final third, with this being something that will really worry fans given the attacking talent they had on the pitch.

However, there were a few positives, albeit not many, with picking up another clean sheet being one of them.
There was one big defensive issue that they may have quietly solved, though, during this game, with it needing to continue if they are to look more comfortable at the back.
Ibrahima Konate won 100% of his duels against Leeds
One big issue Liverpool have had this season has been losing their duels, specifically in the air as teams have gone more direct.
However, Liverpool dealt with Leeds’ long throw-ins and corners well, while also winning the second balls which they have not done in previous weeks.

Ibrahima Konate was at the heart of everything good at the back for the Reds too, with the Frenchman winning 100% of his duels as per sofascore.
He won all eight of his aerial duels and both of his ground duels, showing just how dominant he really was against a physical side.
Virgil van Dijk did well in this department too after winning six of his eight aerial duels and two of his three ground duels, with both having a solid game.
This is something Liverpool will hope can continue to solve one big issue, but it does look like they might have another one at the other end of the pitch if they are not careful.

Liverpool’s defence was let down by the attack
There have not been many games this season where both Liverpool’s defence and attack have worked well in tandem, with this match another example of this.
Despite being solid at the back, the forward line could not create anything, which is a big worry given how much talent they had on the pitch.
Jeremie Frimpong was the biggest threat, while Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai could not dictate the game like they usually do.
Hugo Ekitike tried his best but was a little isolated at times, with this something Slot needs to sort out before fans start to turn on him again.
