Manchester City look set to win the race for one of the Premier League's most in-demand players

Manchester City are closing in on a move for Manchester United and Liverpool target with a ‘deal almost done’, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

However, City are the only club who have made any formal contact with the Cherries with the £65m release clause only active until January 10.

As Pep Guardiola’s side close in, Fabrizio Romano said on X when providing an update on the deal: “Antoine Semenyo and Manchester City, deal almost done with final steps to follow soon.

“Man City and Bournemouth has positive call [on Tuesday] to proceed in talks while the player’s prepared to join Man City. Here we go, soon.”

Semenyo has been one of the Premier League’s stand-out players this season, with nine goals and three assists in 18 games. Only Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Man City superstar Erling Haaland have scored more.

It is a blow for Bournemouth and a huge boost for City as they look to win the Premier League title.

"I'm not going to sit here and say he doesn't leave a hole," Cherries man David Brooks said with Semenyo widely expected to leave the south coast before the end of next week.

"He's our top scorer and he's been a very, very good player for us over the past couple of years. Everyone loves Ants in our team and if he's going to join someone else we wish him all the best, he's earned it."

Semenyo will be able to add goal scoring, pace and some physicality to City’s front-line and alongside Haaland it will be a daunting prospect for Premier League defences.

For United, it will leave them to go back to the market and look for another forward option as they seek for players who can add more goals to the ranks under Ruben Amorim.
