Cam Thomas drops cryptic reaction about bench role frustration for Nets

Thomas has been leading the Nets' second unit since he returned from a long inactivity due to a hamstring injury.

In the aftermath of their 120-96 blowout loss against the Houston Rockets, Cam Thomas was asked for any thoughts or frustration over his continued bench appearance for the Brooklyn Nets since he returned from injury.

The 24-year-old guard simply smiled, telling reporters he had nothing to offer before exiting the press room.

Thomas has been Brooklyn's main scorer and offensive unit. Before going down, he played eight games earlier this season as a starter.

But despite his absence and the team's main priority to rebuild, the Nets still won a handful of games recently behind the lead of Michael Porter Jr. Several of Brooklyn's young pieces earned more minutes and played well from Egor Demin, Noah Clowney, Danny Wolf and Jalen Wilson.

It would be intriguing to see how his role might change or not as the season progresses for Brooklyn. Thomas is set to become an unrestricted free agent in this year's offseason after inking a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer last September.

Interestingly, Kevin Durant had lofty words about his former Nets teammate.

“I feel like Cam has a bright future," the Rockets star said, via ClutchPoints' Erik Slater. "It just takes somebody to believe in his talent and his skill. Scorers and guys that score the basketball at a high rate, they get taken for granted in this league a bit. We’re so used to loving defenders and playmakers and guys that can be connectors, sometimes scorers get taken for granted.

"So hopefully somebody takes a chance on Cam and gives him what he deserves and puts the ball in his hands and builds around him and lets him grow into a player. ... Hopefully a team puts some trust in him.”
