AJ Green wants Bucks teammates focused solely on one thing

The Milwaukee Bucks blew a prime opportunity to stack wins entering the New Year. Instead, Washington stole a 114-113 victory from under their hosts’ noses Wednesday night in the Fiserv Forum. That snapped the Bucks’ two-game win “streak” and stopped them from winning three in a row for the first time all year.

None of that matters, said AJ Green afterward. Not the two wins coming in. Not a potential three-win streak. Not the last game or the next. None of that matters at all.

So what does? “It’s frustrating, man, ” Green said via Bucks Lead. “I alluded to it this morning [at shootaround], two in a row does not matter. It’s gotta be one in a row every night. The win is the result of doing things the right way – doing things together consistently.”

Green’s comment on togetherness echoes head coach Doc Rivers’ own thoughts on his team’s efforts. He was not pleased with the lack of passing or ball movement. The Bucks finished the night with 24 assists, but the flow wasn’t there. That choppy play allowed the Wizards to hang around all night, get out in front late, and use that cushion to stay within striking distance in the final seconds.

Green, who went 3-for-8 for nine points (all threes), two assists, and two rebounds, knows this team can be better.

“We know what we have that, when we [play consistent], we win. And it’s just a matter of being focused and disciplined to do that.”

The Bucks carried consecutive wins into the Wizards game for the first time in two months. In an up-and-down stretch in the meantime, much of it missing Giannis Antetokounmpo to groin and calf strains, Milwaukee went 3-13 and at one point lost seven straight. By New Year’s Eve, however, they’d won three of four and had their leader back ahead of schedule. Some of that positive momentum dissolved when Giannis’ shot at the buzzer clanged off back iron.

The Bucks (14-20) will have to take Green’s words to heart as they look to win one in a row hosting the Hornets on Friday.
