Liverpool have one former player who has shone since his departure from Anfield in the summer - and it could reap some reward for the Reds
Much has been said of Liverpool’s summer transfer business with a record-breaking £450m spent.
Some players have struggled to settle and been subject to criticism with stars like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak perhaps under a bigger microscope after arriving for club-record transfer fees.
Liverpool did have to balance the books somewhat to help accommodate their lavish spending with several players leaving Merseyside during the summer.
One of those players was midfielder Tyler Morton, who joined French side Olympique Lyonnais in a deal worth up to £15m. He has impressed in France, making 21 appearances for Lyon with one goal and two assists to his name.
Tutto Juve report that Juventus are now eyeing the midfielder who has ‘literally surprised everyone’ with his performances since leaving Merseyside for France.
It reports that Liverpool agreed a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his contract with Lyon which has proven to be a clever move from the Reds as Morton has progressed into a regular starter for a big-name club in France.
What would be surprising for those at Anfield is just how quickly that sell-on clause might come into effect with Juventus weighing up a move according to the above report from Tutto Juve, who say the Italian giants are tracking Morton ahead of a potential deal.
The complication for the Turin club lies in the sell-on clause, as Lyon will want a decent fee in order to offset the 20 per cent that will need to go to Liverpool. It is something Juventus could revisit in the summer if they do not pursue a move this month.
Morton actually recently spoke about his exit from Liverpool.
"Last year was amazing," Morton told Mail Online. "As a fan of Liverpool and a boyhood Red, if I had told myself when I was younger that I would be part of a Premier League-winning team I would bite your hand off. I would do anything for that. It was incredible.
"But also it was very frustrating, obviously. I wanted to win so much because it was my club, the club I love. I wanted to be a Liverpool player. So it was difficult when I realised I wanted and needed to leave.
"I felt really ready to play for Liverpool. But there are different managers, different styles. Whatever he wants. Of course, playing behind the likes of Ryan (Gravenberch) and Dom (Szoboszlai) and Alexis (Mac Allister), all incredible footballers, so I appreciated that.
"Now, though, at Lyon, I am loving it. Loving it. It is a lovely place to live and play football. I am just really enjoying playing games again. Last season, obviously, was difficult. This season is amazing to play in front of fans, especially these Lyon fans because they are so passionate.”
