Anton Stach explains why Leeds United fell short of 'perfect' standard required against Liverpool

Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach was not satisfied despite his side’s battling 0-0 draw, earning a precious point against Liverpool.

Anton Stach was one of the standout performers in the Leeds midfield at Anfield as he provided a vital link between attack and defence.

Daniel Farke had set his side up to defend on Merseyside, and Stach provided a precious outlet for the Leeds defence as his strong carries and pinpoint set-piece delivery provided the visitors’ main threat.

However, Stach was guilty of one wasteful moment in the second half as he overhit a pass to Brenden Aaronson, which saw a promising counter-attack fizzle out to nothing.

According to Stach, Leeds still need to improve their precision on the ball after they moved seven points clear of the Premier League relegation places.

Anton Stach demands improvement from Leeds United

Speaking to LUTV after the game, Stach explained why he was not happy to accept a point from the game against Liverpool.

Leeds could have nicked the game had Dominic Calvert-Lewin not been flagged for offside to deny his late winner, and Stach believes the Whites can still sharpen their attacking game.

The German midfielder said: “It was a tough game, we didn’t create many chances. I think maybe sometimes in the counterattacks we need to be more perfect in the passes.

“But then we could create some chances because they offered some space for us. But of course, the rest of the game we just need to defend, to be compact, to defend as a team and be mentally strong, and I think this is what we did today, and so we take the important point.”

Ampadu’s absence means that Farke will be forced to reshuffle his midfield for the game at Elland Road, with Brenden Aaronson impressing in a deeper-lying role against Crystal Palace and Sunderland.

As a result, Farke could choose to drop Stach into a more defensive role, partnering the German with Aaronson and Ilia Gruev in the absence of Leeds’ influential captain.
