LeBron James agent explains why Cam Reddish never hit NBA potential

LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul explained why Cam Reddish never reached his NBA potential. According to Paul, it was not a lack of talent but role, timing, and confidence that shaped his career, from college at Duke to the draft and his brief overseas stint.

LeBron James long career is something few players can match. Staying at the top for so many years is rare, and many talented players struggle with timing and pressure along the way. One of them is Cam Reddish.

With Reddish's NBA path now seemingly at an end, LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, shared his view on what went wrong. Speaking on Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul, he explained that the issue was never talent. Instead, it was about role, confidence, and situation.

“I watched this kid score 50 of the easiest points. Me and Mav were together, and were like, damn, that looked easy. 6’9, fluid. When he got to college with RJ and Zion, he was kinda the 3rd option,” he said.

“That can do something mentally to you, confidence… Then you go to the draft, you're supposed to be a top 5 pick. You go 10th to a team that took a player you were ranked better than the whole time, and in front of you at 4 in DeAndre Hunter. Then you get trade, it’s a circumstance.”

Reddish arrived at Duke as a projected star, but his role quickly changed. Playing next to Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett meant fewer touches and less freedom. Instead of leading, he had to adjust and fill a smaller role, which can affect any young player's mindset.

According to Paul, the 2019 NBA Draft was another key moment. Reddish was expected to be selected in the top five but fell to No. 10. Atlanta had already picked DeAndre Hunter at No. 4, adding more pressure and questions right away. Trades and changing roles followed, and stability never came.

After his NBA chances faded, Reddish looked overseas for a fresh start. Earlier this season, he joined BC Siauliai in Lithuania, his first stop outside the NBA. He was given more responsibility and showed flashes of his scoring ability.

In nine games, Reddish averaged 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. He also had a strong 27-point game against Rytas Vilnius.

Still, the comeback did not last long. Siauliai later announced that Reddish and the club agreed to part ways, with the player returning to the United States for personal reasons.
