Long before kick-off, the focus was firmly on the stands. Fans came together for a moving pre-match tribute, organised by the Heaven Branch, as photographs of supporters who had passed away in 2025 were held aloft around the ground alongside images of club legends Gary Rowell, Charlie Hurley and Carlton Fairweather. Both captains laid wreaths at either end of the stadium, with a minute’s applause observed as names were displayed on the big screen – a powerful reminder of the bond between club and community.
From there, the noise rarely dipped. A packed Stadium of Light roared Sunderland through another committed, fearless performance, urging every tackle, block and break forward as Régis Le Bris’ side went toe-to-toe with the reigning champions. Scarves, flags and raised arms filled the stands at full-time as supporters applauded a result that preserved Sunderland’s unbeaten home record.
