Kevin Durant says Nets rising star has a bright future in the NBA

Kevin Durant praised Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas, calling him a special scoring talent with a bright future.

Cam Thomas has built a reputation as one of the most explosive scorers in the league. The Brooklyn Nets guard can score in bunches at all three levels, and his ability to create shots even against top defenders makes him one of the most dangerous offensive players in the NBA.

While Thomas may not be a franchise superstar like Kevin Durant, the Houston Rockets forward sees plenty of potential in the 24-year-old. Durant played alongside Thomas in Brooklyn and has been impressed with his skill and scoring ability from the start.

"I feel like Cam has a bright future. It just takes somebody to believe in his talent and his skill. Scorers and guys that score the basketball at a high rate, they get taken for granted in this league a bit. We’re so used to loving defenders and playmakers and guys that can be connectors, sometimes scorers get taken for granted," Durant said, per Erik Slater, after the Rockets’ win 120-96 over the Nets.

Since returning from a long injury layoff on December 27, Thomas has made an immediate impact. Even with minutes restrictions, he is averaging 21.3 points per game, showing why he is one of the most impressive scorers in the league.

Durant also emphasized that Thomas deserves a real opportunity, whether it’s with the Nets or another team. Thomas’ contract situation in the 2025 offseason left some questioning his value, but Durant believes any team willing to trust him will benefit.

"Scorers like Cam are special. He’s going to be around for a long time, and someone just needs to give him the chance," Durant concluded.
