Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel impressed NBA star Stephen Curry after Charlotte’s loss to the Warriors. The 20-year-old is off to a strong start, averaging 19.3 points per game with high efficiency, and is already a contender for Rookie of the Year.
Charlotte Hornets fell 125-132 to the Golden State Warriors on New Year’s Eve, dropping to 11-22 and sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference. Despite the loss, rookie Kon Knueppel is quickly making a name for himself.
After the game, Warriors star and NBA legend Stephen Curry specifically singled out Knueppel for praise.
"It's impressive. For as young as he is, he plays with such composure," Curry said per Steve Reed of AP. "He obviously can shoot the ball at a high level, you can't leave him open at all—he just has such a good, quick release and shoots with confidence."
Curry’s comments carry extra weight given his status as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history. The 20-year-old Knueppel has been off to an impressive start, averaging 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from three.
Knueppel’s combination of volume and efficiency is rare, especially for a rookie. He is currently Charlotte’s most efficient scorer, outperforming teammates LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges.
